I am still on a high from a lovely weekend with friends – or should I say ‘guinea pigs’ – at my very first upholstery workshop in the upholstery studio.

Four of my closest descended from London armed with a tatty piece of furniture and a metre of fabric of their choice to spend the day with me in my studio. I had arranged for them to arrive by 10am – although I knew given the fact they were bringing husbands and children too that it would more likely be a 11am start – we finally headed in after a tub of rocky road and a quick catch up at 11.30am. I knew I had to get them going quick if we were to complete the projects in the day!!

Laura brought a 1960’s telephone table which she thought would look good in a different colour to the wood, so I suggested Annie Sloan paints as they are quick to dry and have a lovely chalk finish. She wiped down her piece and got to painting in a beautiful violet colour.

Rachel brought four dining chairs with her. We decided to take one completely apart back to the frame, but only take the other three back to the hessian, so she would have time to complete them in a day.

Lily’s footstool was perhaps a little ambitious for a days’ work, but I knew it would be completed by the end of the weekend (luckily they were staying over night so the workshop rekindled Sunday morning).

Jo also brought a telephone table. Unfortunately it was littered with staples and took so long to take apart that we only managed to get the seat reupholstered. I will be finishing it off for her this week.

So here are the finished items. Didn’t they do well!
