The Festival of Upholstery brought together craftspeople, suppliers, and enthusiasts from across the UK for a celebration of creativity, skill, and community and Sit on This! was right at the heart of it.
We were thrilled to take to the stage for a live podcast recording with Conservator Heather Porter and later a business panel discussion, diving into what it really takes to run a successful upholstery workshop in today’s world.
Hosted by Vicky Grubb and Ray Clarke, our live session blended honest chat, expert insight, and plenty of laughs true Sit on This! style. In the business panel we were joined by special guests from across the trade, where we explored everything from setting up your first workshop and managing clients to the tools, suppliers, and mindset that help upholsterers thrive.
“It’s not just about making beautiful furniture it’s about building a business that lasts,” said Vicky during the discussion. “Upholstery is changing fast, and it’s exciting to see so many people bringing fresh energy to the craft.”
The business panel followed, giving attendees a chance to ask questions, share experiences, and gain practical advice from upholsterers who’ve been there, done that, and stitched the cushion covers.
The atmosphere was buzzing a mix of laughter, note-taking, and nods of recognition as the conversation turned to pricing, sustainability, and the future of the trade.
Our thanks go to the Festival of Upholstery team for inviting Sit on This! to be part of such a vibrant event, and to everyone who came along to listen, chat, and connect.
If you missed the live recording, don’t worry the episode will be available soon on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all major platforms.
